Oats Surprise

Oats are rich in fibre and very healthy as it is a wholesome food rich in all nutrients. You can prepare oats surprise using jaggery, rich in carbohydrates and a mix of nuts, all having essential and vitamin and minerals. Adding dried fruits like raisin, apple chip enhances the nutrition value of this dish.You can further flavour the dish by adding cinnamon powder and vanilla extract.

    Ingredients to make Oats Surprise:

    ½ cup oats, ¾ cup jaggery, 1-2 nuts like cashews, peanut, almond, 1-2 pieces of dried fruit like raisin, apple chip, 1 tsp ghee, ¼ tsp cinnamon powder, a drop of vanilla extract, 2-3 sunflower seeds.

    Steps to make Oats Surprise:

    1. In a pan, dry roast the sunflower seeds and all the nuts for 2 mins. Once cool, grind to a fine powder.

    2. In the same pan, dry roast the oats on a medium flame till you get a good aroma.

    3. In 1 cup of water, add the powdered jaggery add get it melted. Filter the jaggery and the syrup is ready.

    4. In a vessel add ghee. Add the oats and pour the syrup. Add the dried fruits too. Bring the oats mixture to a boil on a medium flame. Adjust the consistency by adding little water if the mixture is too thick. Cook till the oats gets soft and has blended well with the jaggery.

    5. Add cinnamon powder and a drop of vanilla extract.

    Oats Surprise is ready. Garnish with the powder of nuts and sunflower seeds. Enjoy!
