This is one of the main dishes that is offered to Lord Jagannath at Puri temple in Odisha. This dish is prepared without using onion and garlic.

Ingredients to make Badi Mahura:
8 fried urad dal badi, ½ tsp sugar, 2 dried red chili, 2 tsp panch phorun, 1 cup grated coconut, 1 roasted chili, ½ tsp cumin powder, few curry leaves, 1 tsp tamarind pulp, oil, salt to taste
Steps to make Badi Mahura:
1. In a pan, heat some oil and add powdered panch phorun masala.
2. Now add roasted chili, curry leaves, salt, cumin powder and roast this masala on low flame for few seconds.
3. Add grated coconut and sugar. Let it cook on low flame and mix well.
4. Now add urad dal badi to this mixture and also add half a cup of water.
5. Let this mixture cook well and cover it for 5 minutes.
6. After 5 minutes, stir the mixture well and then add tamarind pulp to it.
7. For tempering, take 1 tsp ghee and add 1 tsp mustard seeds, 2 dry red chilies to it.
8. Pour this tempering over the prepared badi curry.
Serve hot with roti.
